What “show up more in AI” means
When someone asks ChatGPT or Google for the best tool in your category, the AI picks a short list of brands. Showing up more means your brand is named on that list more often, and linked as a source more often.
AI builds its answers from sources. Those sources are your own pages and pages on other sites, such as media articles, review sites and forums. So there are two kinds of work.
- Content actions change your own website. You add a comparison page, answer a buyer question, or refresh a page AI already skips.
- External actions happen on other sites. You get mentioned in the media AI already reads, or you fix how a review site describes you.
A good tool shows you which of these to do first, helps you do them, and checks the result. That is the loop HeyAmos is built around: analysis, strategy, execution, then impact.
How to check if AI names you today
Start with a quick test. It takes ten minutes and shows you the problem.
- Write down five questions a buyer would ask before choosing a tool in your category, such as “best tool for [your category]” or “[your competitor] alternatives”.
- Ask each question in ChatGPT and in Google. Note whether your brand is named and which brands appear instead.
- Click the sources AI shows. These are the pages shaping the answer.
- Ask the same question again later. The answer will often change.
That last step is the catch. A single answer is not data. AI answers change from one run to the next, so you need the same questions run many times, every week, across the engines your buyers use. HeyAmos says it runs every unique prompt multiple times per model each week. Visibility is how often a brand is mentioned. If AI names you in 21 of 100 answers, visibility is 21%.
What to track first
Track the questions that sit close to a buying decision. These are comparison questions, alternatives questions and “best tool for” questions. HeyAmos has a prompt research tool that shows what your audience asks AI and which topics are trending. You can also add your SEO keywords and let HeyAmos turn them into prompts. You can track prompts in any language and geography.
Start small. A short list of questions you understand beats a long list nobody reads.
First 30 days
This is what a marketing leader can ship in the first month with HeyAmos. It assumes the Growth plan, because content drafts start there.
- Week 1: you know where you stand. You add the questions your buyers ask AI. HeyAmos can generate prompts for you, or turn your SEO keywords into prompts. You get a baseline that shows how often AI names you next to your competitors.
- Week 2: you ship your first fixes. You take the top two content actions from the list. One is usually a page you refresh and one is a new page that answers a buyer question. You use content drafts to get a first version, then edit and publish.
- Week 3: you reach beyond your own site. You take your first external action, such as a placement on a source AI already cites. You check what moved after the first two fixes.
- Week 4: you report to leadership. You share the Impact report. It shows what changed and why, which fixes worked, and the next actions.
Results vary by category and by how much you ship. Do not judge a tool on one week of data.
“For SEO it takes at least six months. With AEO, we saw results in the first two or three weeks,” says Vignesh Ramalingam, Director of Marketing & Digital Initiatives at Fielddrive. Read the Fielddrive case study.
A simple weekly routine
Once the first month is done, keep the rhythm small.
- Open the Impact report and read what changed and why.
- Pick the top two actions. Ship one content action and one external action when you can.
- Review any content drafts, edit them in your own voice and publish.
- Note which actions moved your numbers, so next week you do more of what works.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Judging on one answer. One answer is a snapshot. Look at the trend across many runs.
- Only tracking your brand name. Questions that include your name make your visibility look close to 100%. The fair number comes from questions that do not mention you, such as “best tool for [your category]”. Track those first.
- Only fixing your own site. AI also reads media articles, review sites and forums. A page on your site cannot fix a gap in those sources.
- Buying a tool and not shipping. Tracking does not change what AI says. The weekly actions do. Book time on Monday to ship the top two.
- Ignoring engines your buyers use. Check which engines each plan includes. On HeyAmos, Starter tracks ChatGPT and AI Overviews, and other engines are add-ons or start on higher plans.
Which tool for which team
- HeyAmos fits teams that want to act on the data. Its Starter plan tracks two engines, so teams that need Gemini or Perplexity should plan for the Pro plan or add-ons.
- Peec fits teams that want a clear view of visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice. Starter is $95/month for 50 prompts and 3 models.
- Otterly.AI fits teams that want to test the channel cheaply. Lite is $29/month for 15 prompts.
- The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit fits teams already in Semrush. Base is $99/month per domain, billed annually, for 25 prompts. You do not have to drop Semrush to add another tool.
- AthenaHQ fits teams that care how AI describes the brand. Starter is $295/month.
- Profound fits large brands with security reviews. Enterprise pricing is custom.

How do I know if my brand shows up in AI?
Ask ChatGPT and Google the questions your buyers ask, such as “best tool for [your category]”. Note whether your brand is named. A tracking tool runs those questions every week and shows how often you appear compared with competitors.
What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is how often AI tools name or link to your brand when people ask about your category. It is also called generative engine optimization (GEO) or answer engine optimization (AEO).
What is the difference between content actions and external actions?
Content actions change your own website, such as a new comparison page. External actions happen on other sites, such as getting mentioned in a publication AI already reads.
Do I need to be technical to use these tools?
No. These tools show you the answer AI gave, the sources behind it and what to do next. You need someone who can edit your website and someone who can pitch media.
